Eia kekahi moʻolelo e pili ana iā Kawahineʻaihonua. As we further the story of who we are, we'd like to honor another place we come from and the patroness of that land. Born and partially raised in Hilo, I (Kahekili) was told many stories of Pele, the earth devouring woman. She is the personification of lava, a symbol of both destruction and creation, and is commonly associated with her kino lau the ʻōhiʻa lehua. Pele is often depicted as young girl with beautiful features, an elderly woman with white hair, or even a powerful goddess piercing the earth with her ʻōʻō to bring up new land. We hoped to share with you a piece both subtle and striking, much like the nature of this wahine. This premium 100% cotton long sleeve was printed in Honolulu and embroidered in Kāneʻohe.
